Overview
- Xbox announced on Thursday that, starting in November, Game Pass subscriptions will include monthly cloud-gaming caps of 15 hours for Ultimate, 10 hours for Premium, and 5 hours for Essential.
- The company said the change is a cost-management move meant to help fund reliability and performance improvements and that it expects about 4% of Game Pass subscribers to be affected.
- After users hit their included hours they will be able to buy additional cloud playtime through the Xbox Store, and people without Game Pass will be able to purchase pay-as-you-go streaming hours for eligible owned titles.
- Microsoft will publish specifics on pricing, eligible games, regional availability, and tools to check remaining hours in November when the new system goes live.
- The shift comes alongside other Xbox moves — tests of ad-supported streaming, a disc-to-digital program, and organizational changes under CEO Asha Sharma — and could push some players toward downloads, hardware upgrades, or buying extra cloud time.
