WWE Shifts PLEs to ESPN Early With Sept. 20 Wrestlepalooza Headlined by John Cena

WWE fulfilled its Peacock obligations, enabling an early ESPN start that debuts alongside a $29.99 app.

Overview

  • ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service launches August 21, and beginning September 20 it becomes the exclusive U.S. home for WWE premium live events for subscribers on the unlimited plan.
  • The first event is Wrestlepalooza on September 20 at IndianapolisGainbridge Fieldhouse, streaming at 7 p.m. ET and billed as John Cena’s final match in the city, with presale August 21 and general ticket sales August 22.
  • The Sept. 20 date creates a planned head-to-head with AEW’s All Out in Toronto, positioning the promotions in direct competition that night.
  • Peacock will stream its final WWE PLE, Clash in Paris, on August 31, and will retain new programming including exclusive Saturday Night’s Main Event shows with John Cena’s retirement match slated for November 13, while NXT PLEs continue there for now.
  • The ESPN app is reported to cost $29.99 per month, and reports indicate some pay‑TV subscribers (DirecTV, Hulu + Live TV, Charter, FuboTV, Verizon Fios) will get unlimited-tier access at no extra cost, while others such as YouTube TV, Dish and Comcast may not.
