Overview

  • The rule covers players ranked No. 1 to No. 750 who take at least 10 consecutive weeks off for egg or embryo freezing.
  • Eligible athletes receive a Special Entry Ranking based on their 12-week average from eight weeks before their absence, valid for entry into up to three tournaments.
  • The policy complements the WTA Maternity Fund’s paid leave of up to 12 months and grants for fertility treatments funded by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
  • Sloane Stephens, who froze her eggs twice, called the move ground-breaking for allowing women to prioritize both career and family health.
  • The WTA’s initiative follows the WNBA’s fertility reimbursements and mirrors a wider push in sports to support athletes’ reproductive choices.
