WRT Wins Weather-Hit Indianapolis 8 Hour as Van der Linde Clinches IGTC Title

A precisely timed stint reset under caution positioned the No. 46 BMW to control a finish constrained by heavy rain.

Overview

  • Only two green-flag laps followed a two-and-a-half-hour lightning red flag before worsening conditions forced the race to end under caution.
  • Kelvin van der Linde, Charles Weerts and Valentino Rossi took the win in WRT’s No. 46 BMW, securing van der Linde the IGTC drivers’ crown and delivering BMW the manufacturers’ title.
  • WRT pitted van der Linde one lap earlier than rivals to reset the 65‑minute stint limit during the prolonged safety-car sequence, which vaulted the No. 46 ahead for the decisive restart.
  • Early polesitter Random Vandals’ No. 51 BMW lost its qualifying times for being underweight and later retired with a throttle-body failure, while the No. 80 Lone Star Mercedes stopped at pit-in during the brief green period.
  • GT World Challenge America titles were sealed as Random Vandals’ No. 99 won the Pro championship, Turner Motorsport clinched Pro-Am with third in class, and AF Corse captured Am honors along with the class win.
