Overview
- Lancashire Police said a Vauxhall Astra driving the wrong way on the southbound M6 collided with a Toyota Corolla near Charnock Richard services at about 9:33pm on October 26.
- The Astra’s driver, a man in his 50s, died at the scene, and two men in their 40s from the Corolla were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
- The motorway was closed in both directions between junctions 27 and 28 overnight with diversions in place, and all lanes reopened by early afternoon on October 27 with residual delays.
- Investigators are asking witnesses to come forward and to share dashcam footage, quoting log 1162 of October 26 via 101 or email to the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
- Officers also want footage from Blackpool Road in Preston around 9:15pm on October 26 after reports the Astra may have been involved in a separate damage‑only collision, and a separate multi‑vehicle incident temporarily held M6 northbound traffic between J21 and J21A on October 28.
