Overview

  • On June 3, 2025, a fire engulfed Jacobs’s Sunny Healing Centre cottage in Gleann Mhic Mhuireann, Casla, killing the 77-year-old exoneree and a man believed to be her caretaker.
  • Gardaí recovered both bodies, preserved the scene for a technical probe and have sent remains to University Hospital Galway for post-mortem examinations.
  • Jacobs spent 17 years in Florida prisons, including five years on death row for murders later attributed to Walter Rhodes, before her conviction was quashed in 1992.
  • After her release, she married fellow exoneree Peter Pringle and together they established The Sunny Centre to support others wrongfully convicted.
  • Authorities continue to examine the bungalow to determine the cause of the fire that claimed Jacobs’s life.
