Wrong-Way Driver, 94, Crashes Into Police Car on A8 After Roadblock

Police seized both drivers’ licences as a second overnight A7 wrong-way crash left minor injuries.

Overview

  • Police say the 94-year-old entered the A995 in the wrong direction, continued onto the A8, and was stopped near Irschenberg after multiple emergency calls from motorists.
  • The driver hit a parked police vehicle at about 100 km/h, was lightly injured and taken to hospital, and the officers were unhurt because they were out of the car.
  • Traffic was diverted at the Irschenberg junction, both damaged vehicles were towed, and the A8 fully reopened at roughly 5:15 a.m.
  • Autobahnpolizei Holzkirchen secured the man’s licence and opened an investigation under the oversight of the Munich II public prosecutor, according to local reports.
  • Separately around 12:05 a.m., a 38-year-old wrong-way driver on the A7 near Bad Brückenau caused a multi-vehicle crash in a construction zone, leaving her and a child with minor injuries, causing about €60,000 in damage, and prompting police to confiscate her licence and open probes for traffic endangerment and negligent bodily injury.
