Wrangler to Shut Four La Laguna Plants, Displacing Over 2,000 Workers

State labor authorities will oversee full severance payments; job fairs will aim to reemploy the displaced workforce.

Overview

  • Kontoor Brands said global supply-chain and capacity analyses drove the decision to permanently close its four La Laguna plants in Torreón, Coyote, La Rosita and San Pedro.
  • More than 2,000 workers have been notified of staged layoffs, with some reports indicating the process will conclude in September and others projecting wind-down through October.
  • The company has guaranteed full severance payments and respect for seniority in compliance with Mexican labor law.
  • The Secretaría del Trabajo de Coahuila, the Procuraduría de la Defensa del Trabajo and the Centro de Conciliación will monitor liquidations and organize job fairs offering at least 800 vacancies.
  • The closures bring to an end nearly three decades of Wrangler operations in the Comarca Lagunera region.
