WPL Sets November 25–29 Window for First Mega Auction, Confirms Retentions, RTM and ₹15 Crore Purse

Officials bill the plan as essential to keep all five teams competitive despite resistance from MI, RCB and DC.

Overview

  • Franchises may retain up to five players with limits of three capped Indians, two overseas and two uncapped Indians, and a five-player slate must include at least one uncapped Indian.
  • Right-to-Match cards arrive for the first time, scaling with retentions: zero retentions allow five RTMs, then four, three, two, one, and none for five retentions.
  • Each team’s auction purse is set at INR 15 crore with retention slabs of ₹3.5 crore, ₹2.5 crore, ₹1.75 crore, ₹1 crore and ₹50 lakh, totaling a ₹9.25 crore deduction for five retentions.
  • Teams can negotiate retention amounts above the guideline slabs, with any excess deducted from the auction purse.
  • Key dates: retention lists due November 5, released-player lists due November 7, player registration closes November 18, final auction list on November 20, auction slated for November 25–29.
