WPL Mini-Auction Set for October 28 in Kochi

The one-day event will force franchises to spend uneven leftover purses to fill scarce specialist roles and finalise squads for the January season.

Overview

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed the auction will be held on Wednesday, October 28 at 5:30 PM IST at the Grand Hyatt Kochi with a pre-show and a live telecast on Star Sports plus streaming on Jio platforms.
  • A pool of 146 players will compete for 27 remaining slots across the five teams, with 119 Indian players and 27 overseas players listed and 20 domestic spots and seven overseas spots available.
  • Team purse positions will shape bidding: UP Warriorz lead with ₹3.75 crore and eight vacancies while Gujarat Giants have ₹1.25 crore (three slots), Royal Challengers Bengaluru ₹1.15 crore (five), Delhi Capitals ₹1.10 crore (five) and Mumbai Indians ₹90 lakh (six).
  • Tactical demand is concentrated in a few areas: specialist wicketkeepers are scarce and expected to draw interest, and high base-price overseas names such as Sophia Dunkley and Sophie Molineux headline the top bracket.
  • The auction will follow capped and uncapped rounds with possible accelerated bidding after the 50th player and carries availability risks for some young and overseas players because of overlapping age‑group tournaments and international tours that could affect final squad selection for the Jan 14–Feb 7, 2027 season.
