WoW: Forever Ships with Official Gamepad (Alpha) Controller Support at Launch

Blizzard’s new controller mode remaps on-screen prompts and uses triggers and bumpers to cycle abilities so players can play Azeroth with a gamepad while the feature remains early and may need platform workarounds.

Overview

  • World of Warcraft: Forever launches Wednesday, Nov. 4 on PC and Mac and is included with an existing World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time.
  • Players can enable Gamepad (Alpha) from the Options menu on the main screen and the UI will change on-screen button prompts to match the connected controller.
  • Combat on Gamepad uses the controller’s triggers and bumpers to cycle different actions mapped to the face buttons, which changes how abilities are accessed in fights.
  • Edit Mode and the Compact Action Bar let players rearrange the interface for controller use, but some workflows such as full chat, party communication, and certain handheld setups may still require keyboard, voice, or workarounds.
  • Forever restores a vanilla-era Azeroth with added zones and the Skyborne race and Blizzard plans staged post-launch content pacing, including first raid unlocks on Dec. 9, as it refines Gamepad support from its alpha state.
