Wout van Aert Wins Vuelta Stage Three, Retains Red Jersey

The Belgian cyclist outsprinted Kaden Groves to secure his first stage win at the Vuelta a España and maintain his overall lead.

  • Van Aert avenged his second-place finish to Groves in the previous stage.
  • The 191.2-km stage ended in a bunch sprint in Castelo Branco, Portugal.
  • Van Aert now leads the overall classification by 13 seconds over Brandon McNulty.
  • A four-man breakaway dominated the early part of the stage but was reeled in with 20 km remaining.
  • The race will move into Spain with a challenging mountain stage next.
