Meatly, a European pet food company, has launched Chick Bites, the first dog treats made with lab-grown chicken meat, in the UK.
The treats, available at a single Pets at Home store in Brentford, combine cultivated chicken with plant-based ingredients and are claimed to be as nutritious as traditional chicken.
The cultivated chicken is produced from a single sample of cells taken from a chicken egg, eliminating the need for animal farming or slaughter.
The innovation is positioned as a sustainable and ethical alternative, with potential to significantly reduce the environmental impact of pet food production.
Meatly plans to scale up production and expand availability of its cultivated meat products within the next three to five years.
