World Junior Badminton Begins in Guwahati With New Relay Format as India Opens vs Nepal

India hosts the championships for the first time since 2008, entering the mixed-team event as the second seed.

  • The Yonex-Sunrise BWF World Junior Championships run October 6–19 at the National Centre of Excellence in Amingaon, Guwahati.
  • The Suhandinata Cup mixed-team event takes place October 6–11 with 36 national teams, followed by the Eye Level Cup individual events from October 13–19.
  • India starts Group H play against Nepal at 12:00 PM on October 6 before meeting Sri Lanka on October 7 and the United Arab Emirates on October 8.
  • This edition debuts BWF’s relay scoring in team ties, with best-of-three sets to 45 points per set made up of five nine-point matches in boys’ singles, girls’ singles, mixed doubles, boys’ doubles and girls’ doubles using cumulative scoring.
  • Hosts India tout a deep squad featuring Unnati Hooda, junior world No. 1 Tanvi Sharma and former boys’ doubles No. 1s Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu, with China, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea cited as the leading challengers.
