World Gravy Wrestling Championship Fills Rose ’n Bowl on Bank Holiday

The community spectacle raises funds for East Lancashire Hospice through two-minute, costume-led bouts judged for entertainment.

  • Approximately 1,500 litres of gravy were prepared and topped up by Andrew Holt of The Real Lancashire Black Pudding Company.
  • Matches last two minutes in a gravy-filled ring, with judges scoring fancy dress, comedy effect and crowd engagement.
  • The championship began in 2007 and was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records in 2019.
  • Competitors also use the tournament to raise money for their own chosen charities alongside the hospice fundraiser.
