Overview

  • The remaining tests for French and Norwegian teams, plus some France‑based athletes, will be conducted in Tokyo because non‑medical genetic testing is banned in those countries.
  • World Athletics tied eligibility to a Sept. 1 deadline and says the rollout largely met it despite Canadian athletes needing retests after initial samples failed to meet requirements.
  • The screening looks for the SRY gene on the Y chromosome, is required once in an athlete’s career, and uses approved cheek swab or dry blood‑spot collection.
  • Sebastian Coe said only the medical delegate sees results and reported no privacy complaints to date.
  • Similar rules in boxing have already led to exclusions, with French women barred from the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool and Olympic champion Imane Khelif appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
