Worker Killed by Maize Collapse Inside Roberts Silo

Judicial authorities have opened a negligent-homicide inquiry that orders scientific forensics to establish how the burial occurred and who may be responsible.

Overview

  • A 32-year-old silo worker, identified as Fernando Fernández, was crushed by a large flow of maize while trying to unjam a spout inside a cereal plant silo in Roberts, Partido de Lincoln on Monday.
  • Local police and volunteer firefighters extracted Fernández from the silo and performed CPR before he was taken to the Hospital Municipal de Lincoln, where he was declared dead on arrival.
  • The case was formally opened as homicidio culposo, the Ayudantía Fiscal de Lincoln and the UFIJ of Junín are leading the probe, and Policía Científica has been ordered to preserve the scene and perform forensic tests.
  • Authorities have not reported any formal charges or published peritaje results yet, and investigators will rely on witness statements, technical forensics and a reconstruction of the grain flow to determine responsibility.
  • The death has shocked the small Roberts community and highlights the specific hazard of grain entrapment during inside-silo maintenance, a risk that can cause rapid burial and fatal compression for workers.
