Worker Killed at Tarro Roadworks After Being Hit by Material Transfer Vehicle

Authorities have opened investigations with the driver undergoing mandatory testing.

  • Emergency services were called about 11:50pm to a construction site on the New England Highway at Tarro, near Newcastle.
  • Police were told the worker was standing behind a parked truck when a material transfer vehicle moving toward the truck struck him.
  • The man, aged 45, died at the scene and is yet to be formally identified.
  • The male driver was taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing as officers established a crime scene and began inquiries.
  • Project contractor John Holland Gamuda Joint Venture said work has paused and staff are being offered support while it assists police and safety regulators, including SafeWork NSW and Comcare.
