Worker Airlifted After Silverado Hits Parked Truck on I-65 in Northwest Indiana

Indiana State Police are investigating why the pickup veered from its lane.

Overview

  • Troopers responded around 2:30 p.m. Monday to a crash on southbound I-65 about a mile north of 61st Avenue in the Hobart area.
  • A white 2006 Chevrolet Silverado left its lane and struck a parked white 2021 Ford F-150 on the right shoulder, according to state police.
  • The impact pushed the contractor’s F-150 into a worker who was collecting debris nearby, seriously injuring the pedestrian.
  • The worker was flown to the University of Chicago Medical Center and the Silverado driver was taken to Franciscan Health Crown Point with serious injuries.
  • The Ford belonged to Interstate Business Solutions, which handles roadside debris collection, and preliminary accounts indicate the Silverado may have overturned before stopping.
