Overview

  • On July 3, firefighters in Gandia and Oliva painted slogans such as “dotación bajo mínimos” on their trucks to protest minimal staffing and outdated equipment.
  • UGT, Intersindical and CGT unions began a work-to-rule strike on June 29 by refusing overtime to demand expanded firefighting crews.
  • The Oliva station closed on July 4 due to lack of personnel, and Gandia’s park cannot operate a second engine or staff its forest-fire vehicle and high-rise rescue ladder.
  • Negotiations on July 4 between firefighters’ representatives and the Diputación de Valencia failed to include any staff increase owing to legal spending caps in the national budget law.
  • The Diputación says it will add 246 firefighter posts over two years but warns that recruitment is limited by training requirements and administrative processes.
