Overview
- Work to dismantle the Ponte al Pino began Sunday night and has interrupted the rail link between Firenze Santa Maria Novella and Firenze Campo di Marte, cutting rail volume on that stretch by about 50 percent.
- Trenitalia and RFI have rerouted many Roma–Milano/Torino services via the coastal Tirrenica and are running shuttle buses, navette and police‑escorted convoys to transfer passengers between the two Florence stations.
- Rerouting on the slower Tirrenica can add up to about 180 minutes to journeys with an average extension reported near 90 minutes for many services.
- Separate technical faults on the Tirrenica near Follonica (causing up to 80‑minute delays) and an electrical problem at Milano Centrale (causing delays and some cancellations) worsened Sunday and Monday morning disruptions but were cleared and circulation was gradually resuming.
- A second, planned work window to lift and install the new bridge is scheduled for the night of July 26–30 and RFI warns it will again produce national timetable changes and reduced train capacity.
