Work Begins on €3.3 Million Overhaul of Barxeta Wastewater Plant to Triple Capacity

Main construction starts in October after years of delays, with treatment kept running by a temporary modular unit.

Overview

  • The EPSAR-led project was confirmed on site by regional environment chief Vicente Martínez Mus after preliminary works started this week.
  • The new facility is designed to treat up to 600 m³ per day, three times the current capacity, to meet regulatory performance standards.
  • The execution period is estimated at 16 months, with completion targeted after the build that begins in October.
  • A compact, reusable modular plant will maintain wastewater treatment throughout construction to avoid service interruptions.
  • Upgrades include full sludge management, a terrestrial emissary to change the discharge point, and a carbon filter to reduce odors, with municipal land ceded to enable the works.
