Sentencing on Dec. 19 will determine punishment plus restitution.

Overview

  • After a six-day jury trial, Kiersten and Moises Soto were found guilty of conspiracy and sex trafficking by force, fraud, and coercion, with Kiersten also convicted of using interstate facilities to promote unlawful activity.
  • Prosecutors said the pair trafficked a younger relative from February through May 2022 across Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Rhode Island using a website to advertise the victim.
  • Evidence showed Kiersten threatened violence, abandonment, and involuntary commitment, while Moises used extreme physical violence, including beatings, choking, and assaults with wooden dowel rods.
  • Cell-phone videos recovered by investigators depicted the couple cornering, berating, and threatening the victim as she suffered agonizing drug withdrawals.
  • The trafficking count carries a mandatory minimum of 15 years and up to life in prison, with supervised release, fines up to $250,000, and mandatory restitution, following a multi-agency investigation led by HSI with state and local police.
