Overview
- Police were called to reports of shots on Frances Street in Woolwich on Thursday evening and found a 32-year-old man with a gunshot wound in a parked car who was taken to an east London hospital with life-threatening injuries.
- Officers and paramedics, including London’s Air Ambulance, gave first aid at the scene and the victim remains in a critical condition while specialist officers support his next of kin.
- Investigators say the suspect fled in a dark-coloured saloon heading towards Woolwich Church Street and no arrests have been made as enquiries continue.
- Detective Chief Inspector Wayne Jolley of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command is leading the probe and has made an urgent public appeal for witnesses and any dashcam or CCTV footage referencing CAD 6520/22OCT.
- The Met says the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, extra reassurance patrols are in place in south-east London, and the case comes during a period of heightened attention to gun crime following other recent London shootings.
