Woodland Mail Theft Damages 30 Ballots Ahead of Prop. 50 Vote

Officials are issuing replacements with safeguards to ensure only one verified ballot is counted.

Overview

  • Four cluster mailbox units in Woodland were broken into, affecting 61 addresses and about 135 registered voters on Shiloh Court, Pearl Court/Way, Carlsbad Place, and Pinnacles Drive.
  • USPS recovered stolen mail that had been sorted and exposed to water, including election-related materials and general correspondence.
  • Thirty recovered ballots were too damaged to use, and the Yolo County Elections Office is mailing replacement ballots immediately.
  • Elections staff are contacting the remaining 105 voters to confirm whether ballots were received, with reissued ballots sent as needed and return envelopes marked with an identification number ending in "-2."
  • Authorities have not identified a suspect in the break-ins, and affected voters who have not received a ballot are urged to contact the Yolo County Elections Office.
