Overview

  • Emergency services were called to Strinesdale Reservoir off the A62 between Oldham and Delph at around 4pm Sunday following reports a woman was struggling in the water.
  • Two fire engines from Oldham Central and Chadderton stations and Heywood’s specialist Water Incident Unit joined police and paramedics in a roughly one-hour search before the body was recovered at about 6:25pm.
  • Greater Manchester Police stated there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and formal identification is pending.
  • The reservoir is signposted with 'deep water' warnings, underscoring a pattern of similar water-safety incidents in Greater Manchester earlier this year.
  • Once identification is complete, police expect a post-mortem examination to establish a definitive cause of death and conclude routine inquiries.
