Woman Who Faked Terminal Cancer Ordered to Repay £30,714 by January 5

The order follows a proceeds of crime ruling at Derby Crown Court responding to a prolonged deception built on fabricated cancer diagnoses.

Overview

  • Judges were told the repayment will be raised through the sale of a watch, with no confirmation it is the Rolex gifted during the relationship.
  • Laura McPherson falsely claimed multiple cancers from 2017, leading partner Jon Leonard and even her young daughter to believe she was dying.
  • Leonard provided nearly £25,000 for supposed treatments and bought a £30,000 Rolex, while McPherson spent on an Austrian resort and breast augmentation.
  • McPherson previously pleaded guilty to fraud and in March received a community order with a night-time curfew and probation requirements.
  • Leonard, who runs the charity fundraising platform Ultra Events, said the ruling closes an eight-and-a-half-year ordeal, citing messages alleging earlier false illness claims.
