Judge Graeme Smith has given Sara Morris 28 days to return £22,386 or face an extra nine months in prison

  • Morris received £2,292.63 a month in Personal Independence Payment from October 2020 to April 2023 by overstating her Multiple Sclerosis symptoms
  • Social media posts and covert surveillance showed her competing in 73 races for the Stone Master Marathoners between May 2019 and December 2022
  • She pleaded guilty last July to dishonestly making a false statement and was sentenced to eight months in prison
  • At Monday’s Proceeds of Crime hearing the court identified £22,386.02 as the proceeds of her fraud and calculated her available assets at £60,000
  • In addition to repaying the misappropriated funds Morris must also pay a £187 court surcharge
