Woman Unaware of Pregnancy Gives Birth at Burning Man as Newborn Is Airlifted to Reno NICU

Volunteer clinicians with festival medics delivered urgent care before the premature baby, later named Aurora, was flown to specialized treatment.

Overview

  • Burning Man Project confirmed a “spontaneous” birth on Aug. 27 in Black Rock City and the medical transfer to Reno.
  • The baby girl, Aurora, weighed 3 lbs 9.6 oz and measured 16.5 inches, and she remains in a neonatal intensive care unit gaining strength.
  • Nearby medical professionals, including an OB-GYN and a neonatal nurse, assisted before on-site emergency teams moved the family to the Rampart clinic, with dust storms and recent rains complicating conditions.
  • Because helicopter space was limited, the infant flew alone to Renown Regional Medical Center while her parents traveled by ground and were later discharged in Reno.
  • A GoFundMe organized by the baby’s aunt passed $12,000 by Sunday to help cover NICU costs, travel, lodging, and basic supplies.
