Overview
- San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies and Redwood City firefighters responded to the 600 block of Hurlingame Avenue around 4:45 a.m.
- Crews brought a heavily involved detached garage fire under control in about 15 minutes, and the main home sustained smoke damage.
- A 31-year-old woman was rescued from the garage and was pronounced dead at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
- Two other occupants self-evacuated before crews arrived and were not injured.
- Officials said Hurlingame Avenue will be closed throughout the day as detectives from the sheriff’s office, the district attorney’s office and the coroner investigate.
