Overview
- The attack was reported around 9:15–9:30pm on Monday outside a residence in Shrewsbury Downs, Ballinlough, on Cork’s southside.
- A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act at a Cork city Garda station.
- The woman, in her late 50s, was pronounced dead at Cork University Hospital, and her husband, in his 60s, remains in a serious but stable condition.
- Investigators recovered a suspected large kitchen knife at the scene, notified the Office of the State Pathologist, and arranged a post-mortem examination.
- A Senior Investigating Officer has been appointed, an incident room set up at Anglesea Street, and Gardaí have appealed for home security or dashcam footage from 8:30pm to 9:30pm Monday.
