Overview
- The collision occurred shortly before 2 pm at the Redmond-Hay River Road level crossing in Redmond, and witnesses say the train horn sounded before pushing the Mitsubishi Triton about 40 metres along the tracks.
- Five people were in the vehicle—a man and woman in their 30s and three children under 10—and the woman died after being freed from the wreckage while the others suffered minor injuries.
- Two grain train crew members escaped physical harm but were treated on-site for shock following the impact.
- Three Albany Fire and Rescue vehicles, six St John Ambulance crews and an RAC rescue helicopter from Perth were deployed to extricate the trapped occupant and provide medical care.
