Woman Killed After Chain-Reaction Crash on Highway 101 in Santa Clara

CHP has opened an investigation that includes a public call for witnesses.

Overview

  • The collisions began shortly after 1:11 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 just north of Great America Parkway, according to CHP.
  • A 2023 Hyundai Elantra was rear-ended by an unknown vehicle, sending it into the concrete median where it overturned.
  • Two occupants, a 44-year-old Menlo Park man and a 27-year-old San Jose woman, exited the overturned car.
  • A 2016 Hyundai Accent then struck the wrecked Elantra and both occupants, and the woman was thrown into southbound lanes and hit by multiple vehicles before she was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Authorities have not released details about the drivers who struck the Elantra and ask anyone with information to contact the CHP San Jose Area Office.
