Woman Hospitalized After Bull Moose Attack West of Jamestown

Officials urge leashed pets following the incident.

Overview

  • The attack occurred around 1 p.m. on Oct. 5 west of Jamestown when a young bull moose knocked a woman walking an off-leash dog to the ground and stomped her multiple times.
  • Colorado Parks and Wildlife said the woman suffered head and back injuries and was transported to a hospital.
  • Responding officers were unable to locate the moose and placed signs in the area warning of aggressive moose behavior.
  • CPW says most reported moose attacks involve dogs because moose view them as predators and advises giving moose ample space and keeping pets leashed, especially near riparian habitat.
  • The case remains under investigation, and the incident follows earlier relocations of a cow moose and calves from Arvada after injuries to people this year.
