Overview

- A woman in her 30s was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary with serious injuries and remained in critical condition on Saturday.
- Two men, aged in their 20s and 30s, were arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and were in custody.
- The A19 was closed in both directions for more than 12 hours, the southbound side reopened around 11:30am, and a northbound section remained shut for inquiries.
