Woman Charged in Murder of Polish Woman Missing for 15 Years

Discovery of human remains in a Normanton garden this month prompted prosecutors to charge a Derby woman with murder.

Overview

  • Anna Podedworna, 39, was charged on June 5 with murder, preventing a lawful burial and perverting the course of justice and is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court on June 6.
  • Human remains believed to be those of Izabela Zablocka were uncovered in a garden on Princes Street, Normanton, on June 1 after Derbyshire Police reopened the inquiry in mid-May.
  • Zablocka, a Polish national who worked at the Cranberry Foods factory in Scropton, vanished in August 2010 after moving to the UK the previous year.
  • Two other women aged 39 and 43 and two men aged 41 and 48 were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain on police bail pending further inquiries.
  • Crimestoppers has offered a £20,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of anyone involved in Zablocka’s killing.
