Woman Charged in Deadly Wrong-Way Crash on Anthony Henday Drive

Authorities are appealing to the public for dash-cam recordings as the major collision investigation unit reconstructs the events leading to the fatal early-morning impact.

Overview

  • Shortly before 1:30 a.m. on August 9 a Chevrolet Cruze struck a light standard on the southbound lanes near the Highway 14 overpass and caught fire.
  • Witnesses pulled the 23-year-old male driver from the burning vehicle and attempted life-saving measures but he died at the scene.
  • Strathcona County RCMP intercepted a Chevrolet Cavalier traveling north in the southbound lanes just south of the Sherwood Park Freeway and arrested its 23-year-old female driver.
  • Edmonton Police Service has charged the woman with dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving.
  • The EPS Major Collisions Investigations Section is leading the probe and has urged drivers with relevant dash-cam or surveillance footage to contact police.
