Woman Charged After Wrong-Way Impaired Crash Kills Driver on Anthony Henday Drive

The major collisions unit is appealing for dash-cam footage to aid the investigation into the fatal wrong-way crash on Edmonton’s ring road.

Overview

  • The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when a Chevrolet Cavalier drove north in the southbound lanes of Anthony Henday Drive, causing a Chevrolet Cruze to strike a light standard and ignite.
  • Bystanders pulled the 23-year-old male driver from the burning Cruze and attempted lifesaving measures but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
  • Strathcona County RCMP intercepted the suspect vehicle near the Sherwood Park Freeway and arrested the 23-year-old woman behind the wheel.
  • Edmonton Police Service’s major collisions investigations section has charged the woman with dangerous driving causing death and impaired driving.
  • Police are calling on motorists with dash-cam footage from the area to come forward to help reconstruct the events leading up to the crash.
