Woman Booked After Infant Allegedly Given Fevikwik in Pune Family Dispute

Police say the report prompted a criminal investigation after the nine-month-old required ICU treatment and parties at the hospital were later accused of intimidation.

Overview

  • Police allege the incident occurred at a Lohegaon home on July 31 when a woman poured Fevikwik adhesive into her nine-month-old nephew’s mouth, prompting the child’s parents to rush him to Sassoon General Hospital.
  • The infant was admitted to the hospital intensive care unit with mouth injuries and bonded lips, and Senior Inspector Manisha Patil told reporters that the baby’s condition has since improved.
  • A criminal case has been registered at Lohegaon Police Station and the woman named in the complaint, Sania Sheikh, has been booked in the case.
  • Authorities also booked two men, Riyaz Imam Halyal and Haji Malang Sheikh of Kandivali, Mumbai, after the family alleged they came to the hospital and threatened the parents to deter them from filing a complaint; no arrests have been reported so far.
  • Fevikwik contains cyanoacrylate, a fast‑bonding adhesive that can harden on contact with moisture and pose airway and tissue risks, and investigators are expected to pursue forensic tests and child‑welfare inquiries as the probe continues.
