Overview

• The passenger, a 46-year-old Nigerian woman arriving from Brussels and bound for Alghero, drew scrutiny over contradictory travel explanations, lack of checked luggage and visible nervousness.
• Radiology at Bergamo’s Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital showed 120 rigid, tape-wrapped packets inside her body, which were later expelled, analyzed and found to contain 1,393 grams of heroin.
• Customs officials from ADM and officers of the Guardia di Finanza made the arrest at Orio al Serio Airport following the alert relayed by ADM’s Direzione Antifrode.
• The seized narcotics were taken into evidence and the woman was jailed in Bergamo at the disposal of the local judicial authority.
• ADM said the case remains in the preliminary investigation phase, with any criminal responsibility to be established by the courts.
