Overview

• The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. in the municipal tent while the woman was dining with her husband and friends.
• Off-duty civil guards and medical personnel attempted resuscitation, a neighbor used an anti-choking device, and local police and Protección Civil joined efforts without success.
• The 112 Extremadura team arrived and certified the death at about 11:45 p.m.
• Police evacuated and cordoned off the municipal tent during the response, and the venue did not reopen that night.
• The victim was identified as Josefina “Merche” Gómez Pelayo of Paiporta, whose remains were moved overnight to a funeral home and then sent to Paiporta as the mayor and town hall issued condolences and thanks.
