WOMAD Cancels Planned Glasgow Festival

Organisers said the Glasgow launch was financially unsustainable because ticket sales fell short in a crowded festival market, with affected customers receiving automatic refunds and offers for discounted Neston Park tickets.

Overview

  • The inaugural WOMAD Glasgow, due to be held at Kelvingrove Park on 3–4 July, has been cancelled after organisers concluded the event was not financially viable.
  • WOMAD and Glasgow Life said ticket sales did not reach required levels and described the challenge of launching a new large-scale festival into an already crowded UK events market as a key factor.
  • All ticket-holders will receive full refunds automatically within seven working days and will be offered discounted tickets for the main WOMAD festival at Neston Park, which is still scheduled for 23–26 July.
  • Artists booked for Glasgow — including Hollie Cook, Ustad Noor Bakhsh and Peat and Diesel — and contractors were thanked by organisers, who apologised for the disappointment to fans and partners.
  • WOMAD, founded by Peter Gabriel in 1982 and staged in multiple countries, has relocated its main UK edition to Neston Park for 2026, and the cancellation highlights the financial risks of expanding festival sites and the pressure on promoters, artists and local suppliers.
