Cooler overnight temperatures with higher humidity are bolstering crews in their efforts to strengthen containment lines.

Overview

  • The Wolf Fire has burned roughly 2,414 acres since igniting June 29 near Banning, making it California’s largest active wildfire.
  • Containment increased to about 40% on July 2 as crews reinforced lines amid steep terrain, high temperatures and gusty winds.
  • Mandatory evacuation orders for 13 areas and warnings for 20 more remain in place, putting over 4,200 structures at risk along the Interstate 10 corridor.
  • More than 900 personnel, including engines, dozers, hand crews and aircraft, are fighting the blaze; at least three firefighters have suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
  • The fire’s cause remains under investigation and forecasted cooler, more humid nights are expected to aid containment efforts.
