Wolf Fire Now 35% Contained as Crews Battle Rugged Blaze in Riverside County

Fire crews are relying on cooler temperatures for higher humidity as they strengthen containment lines around the 2,414-acre blaze that threatens more than 4,200 structures.

Overview

  • The fire has burned 2,414 acres since June 29 near Banning and forced evacuation orders in 13 areas with warnings in 20 more.
  • Containment reached 35% by Tuesday morning as approximately 925 personnel with 103 engines, 10 bulldozers and 16 water tenders focus on building fire lines.
  • Steep terrain, high temperatures and wind continue to hamper efforts even as meteorologists predict cooler evenings and increased humidity to aid suppression.
  • At least three firefighters sustained non-life-threatening injuries and no structures have been reported lost so far.
  • Evacuation centers have been set up at Hemet High School for displaced residents and at the San Jacinto Valley Animal Campus for evacuated pets.
