Overview
- Augsburger Allgemeine’s Thursday explainers say the 2026 asset benchmark stays at €60,000 for the first household member and €30,000 for each additional person.
- The reports list payments that do not count as income for Wohngeld, including Pflegegeld, child benefit, child supplement and education-and-participation support.
- Wohngeld cannot be paid with benefits that already cover housing costs, such as Bürgergeld, Sozialhilfe or most BAföG, but it can be combined with Kinderzuschlag, Kindergeld, ALG I and pensions.
- Retroactive income, for example a backdated disability pension, can trigger a recalculation and recovery under §30 WoGG, a practice upheld by the Koblenz administrative court in 2021.
- You must apply at the municipal Wohngeld office, provide full asset and income records and be prepared for local backlogs before a one year award is set.
