Pratt & Whitney’s recall of engines has disrupted Wizz Air’s operations, with one in five of its aircraft unavailable at times

Overview

  • All locally based flights from Abu Dhabi will end on September 1, 2025, and Wizz Air will exit its joint venture with Abu Dhabi Developmental Holding Co.
  • The carrier attributes the withdrawal to recurring Pratt & Whitney GTF engine failures in hot, sandy conditions and recent regional airspace disruptions.
  • Passengers booked beyond August 31 will be offered refunds or alternative arrangements, and the suspension does not affect other Wizz Air group services.
  • Wizz Air plans to reassign aircraft and capital to its core Central and Eastern European markets and select Western European countries such as Austria, Italy and the UK.
  • Despite record passenger numbers, the group reported a 51.7% slump in operating profit for fiscal 2025, driving the strategic realignment.
