Wizards of the Coast Taps Giant Skull for New D&D Action-Adventure, Not Baldur’s Gate 4

The deal kicks off a years-long, multi-studio strategy to develop high-end Dungeons & Dragons titles

Overview

  • Wizards of the Coast signed an exclusive publishing agreement with Stig Asmussen’s Giant Skull to create a single-player action-adventure set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe.
  • President John Hight clarified that the Giant Skull project is not Baldur’s Gate 4 and is designed to attract fans of Jedi and God of War-style combat.
  • Giant Skull intends to stay a lean studio of around 35 people, relying on outsourcing and Wizards’ shared art and content teams for production support.
  • Wizards plans to build a portfolio of premium D&D games by leveraging five internal studios and backing both veteran directors and emerging developers.
  • A successor to Baldur’s Gate remains unassigned as Wizards continues its search for the right partner to develop the next CRPG installment.
