Wizards of the Coast Relaunches Lorwyn With Henson Puppet Rock Opera, New Mechanic, and Oko’s Return

A Henson-made rock-opera trailer underscores a design focus on identity through mirrored day–night play.

Overview

  • During a Jan. 5 WeeklyMTG livestream, Wizards revealed more than 40 Lorwyn Eclipsed cards and set dates: Play Early events run Jan. 15–22, Magic Arena goes live Jan. 20, and the full release lands Jan. 23.
  • A new Vivid mechanic scales effects by the number of colors among your permanents, joining returning systems including Convoke, Evoke, Behold, transform/flip cards, and -1/-1 Blight counters.
  • Planeswalker Oko returns with a transforming light/dark presentation that ties into the set’s typal themes.
  • Two Commander precons were announced: Blight Curse, led by Auntie Ool, Cursewretch, and Dance of the Elements, a five-color list led by Ashling, the Limitless.
  • The trailer follows boggarts Squen and Cragg in a duet produced by The Jim Henson Company, aligning with art direction that favors tactile, ‘puppety’ textures to convey the world’s dual identity.
