Witnesses Identify Yasin Malik as Shooter in 1990 IAF Killings at TADA Hearing

Malik is already serving a life term in a separate terror case as prosecutors pursue a death-penalty appeal.

Overview

  • Two Indian Air Force eyewitnesses told a TADA court in Jammu that they saw Yasin Malik open fire in the 1990 Rawalpora attack.
  • The witnesses also identified three alleged associates — Javed Ahmed Mir, Muhammad Rafiq Pahloo (alias Saleem Nana Ji), and Shaukat Ahmed Bakshi — as involved in the shooting.
  • The gun attack on January 25, 1990 in Srinagar’s Rawalpora killed four IAF personnel, including Squadron Leader Ravi Khanna, and injured others.
  • Both witnesses were cross-examined and stood by their accounts, while Malik joined the proceedings via video from Tihar Jail.
  • The court set the next hearing for November 29, and in a separate case the NIA seeks in-camera proceedings in its Delhi High Court appeal for a death sentence, listed for January 28, 2026.
