With RN Support, Macron Allies Reclaim Nearly All National Assembly Committees

A proportional allocation deal returned the far right to the Assembly’s Bureau, elevating it to a decisive role in parliamentary power-sharing.

Overview

  • After a points-based distribution pushed through by the governing bloc and the RN, the Bureau now counts nine members from the socle commun including the president, seven from the left, five from the RN and allies, and one Liot secretary.
  • The RN secured two vice presidencies and two secretary posts on the Bureau, then declined to run for committee chairs and backed the socle commun’s candidates.
  • All permanent committee presidencies shifted to the governing camp with RN votes except Finance, which remains chaired by Éric Coquerel of LFI.
  • Alexandre Portier (LR) now leads the Culture Committee and Stéphane Travert (Renaissance) the Economic Affairs Committee, displacing prior left chairs.
  • Budget oversight posts moved rightward as Philippe Juvin (LR) became rapporteur général, replacing Charles de Courson (Liot), while Thibault Bazin (LR) kept the social security budget brief, prompting sharp denunciations from left leaders.
